| Subject: Star Wars RPG Being Pitched By Fallout: New Vegas Dev Sun Feb 10, 2013 8:24 pm | |
| Fallout: New Vegas and Alpha Protocol developer Obsidian Entertainment is looking to develop a Star Wars RPG, according to the dev's CEO Fergus Urquhart, with the studio pitching the game to LucasArts.
"I would say it's within the top three pitches we’ve ever come up with,” he told Rock Paper Shotgun. Apparently, Obsidian would look to set the game between the events of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope, bridging the gap between the recent trilogy and the beginning of the original trilogy.
"We think that timeframe is super interesting. It's the fall of the Republic, the extermination of the Jedi; it's Obi-Wan going off and making sure Luke is OK. You have the Sith, but you have the extermination of all Force users except for very, very few," Urquhart noted.
With Disney now holding the Star Wars license however, Urquhart acknowledged that the transition "changes things", but Obsidian will still be looking to get the project off the ground. "We haven’t [talked with Disney yet]. We’re kind of waiting for the smoke to clear," he said. "But that’s one of my next big things to do. To kind of go over there and [get the ball rolling again]."
Of course, Obsidian knows its RPG onions and is currently finishing off South Park: The Stick of Truth. The studio also developed Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords, so presumably the Star Wars mythology would be in safe hands should the pitch to Disney be successful.
