i still need to do this, is it that you have to do the whole match as soldiers or do you just need to end that way?

You have to stay as Soldier throughout the match, as we found to our dismay. As one of our teammates' game froze just before we finished wave 10. He rejoined but the cheevo didn't pop after we won.

I'm online now ready to take them Serapedes down all 6 of them in wave 8!
