Teen in court for spending Pal's 'gold' in online Game

A TEENAGER was hauled into court after raiding a pal’s savings — virtual coins in an online game.

Keiron Belmont used Helen Jenkins’ login after a row and blagged all the gold coins she had amassed in SIX YEARS of dungeons and dragons-style role-playing fantasy RuneScape.

He then blew the entire stash.

The credits are used to buy items such as weapons or armour. But they have no value outside the game after maker Jagex banned real-world trading.

Belmont, 19, from Swansea, South Wales, was charged under the Computer Misuse Act 1990 with gaining unauthorised access to a computer and making unauthorised modifications to computer material.

The city’s magistrates heard he had been staying at his victim’s home. He had used her password before he decided to hijack her RuneScape profile.

His lawyer Stuart John said: “He saw an opportunity to carry out a spiteful act. These credits do not have any real value. I would compare it to Monopoly money.”

Belmont admitted the offence. He was given an eight-month conditional discharge and told to pay £16 compensation.

Lol, now they just need to take care of the millions of scammers in the game that steal gold coin daily XD. I used to love Runescape so much, still pop on every once in a while to see what else they added
