GAME & GameStation in trouble

It's well known that Mass Effect 3 will not be stocked by the GAME group. But I was talking to some off the staff today and they aren't getting ANY new releases in the near future.......This has to mean curtains for the U.K.'s biggest high street game retailer.

Sad times.

We are getting Mass Effect 3, but our 2 major game stores (same company) won't be stocking it.

Yea I read about the Mass Effect 3 thing but thought it might get resolved. I actually use Tesco to buy my games lol although I do use Game for pre-orders and some accessories but not much.

I think that a big part of the problemis that if you preorder online, you usually get it cheaper and a day or two before the release date. Or as you say Ninja the supermarkets do great deals on the big releases.
It will have a big impact on the preowned business though.

A MASSIVE problem GAME has is the fact they can't afford to pay the developers (sp?) for the games so developers don't want to supply them with any new released, plus GAME decided awhile ago they wanted to become modern and drop most of the old titles from stock.
Plus adding an extra £5 to most of the new releases doesn't help either when like Publik and Ninja have said you can get them a lot cheaper in supermarkets, its just they managed to last this long by offering preorder bonuses.

I'm not surprised at all apart from its taken them this long to go under. its a massive shame for the high street stores, and unless an american company wants to take the risk and open a game based store then high street gaming I feel is going to end. Blockbusters and HMv will start offering crap trade in prices as there is no competition so people won't trade games in.

I've spoken alot with Publik about this lately and I think we both agree the gaming industry will suffer alot by this not only just the high street.

Wow seems like they are struggling if they aren't stocking one of this years first biggest releases. Won't be suprised if they get rid of gamestation first tbh

I can see them closing gamestation stores first then game stores and then becoming a soley internet based company.

On the plus side I got Fifa 11, Alone in the Dark & Mindjack for a total of £2.49 yesterday. lol

I really hope this deal with Gamestop goes though and we can save the high street gaming stores. Altho the hinted new "discless consoles" sounds like it might end that anyway :S Hope its not true

Another update on this, I went to buy street fighter x tekeen from game today and they are not stocking that either! Really not looking good for them! They guy there gave me some generic response about a dispute between game and capcom.

Game will not be stocking any new releases at all for the forseable future, they have 2 weeks to sort something out before it goes in to administration. There is a rumour that GameStop will be buying them out which if they do expect to see a total rebrand of game and gamestation.
