GTA 5: 2 Discs On Xbox 360 With Mandatory Install

Rockstar reveals how GTA 5 will be restrained by current gen technology, and how the PS3 could edge it out over the Xbox 360.

Rockstar has revealed that the Xbox 360 version of GTA 5 will come with two discs, while the first disc will be a mandatory install.

In a recent Asked & Answered section devoted to GTA 5 on Rockstar's Newswire, Rockstar described GTA 5 as the "largest and most ambitious game we have yet created" in response to a question over the number of discs GTA 5 will fit on.

Rockstar added that GTA 5 "takes full advantage of every ounce of processing available in the current generation of consoles".

"In order to provide the best possible experience for such a massive and detailed world, the game will have installation requirements on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation®3 systems.

"For Xbox 360, Grand Theft Auto V will ship on two discs; Disc 1 will be used for a one-time mandatory install and Disc 2 will be used to play the game."

Thankfully Rockstar added that the mandatory install won't require switching discs during the game - something Xbox 360 gamers playing LA Noire criticised by the end of the game.

"After the install, players will be able to enjoy both Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online without any need to switch discs."

This will require at least 8GB of free space on your Xbox 360 or PS3, and if you don't have the space then you'll be able to use an external 16GB USB drive.

Rockstar added this: "If using a USB flash drive it must be at least USB 2.0 with a minimum 15mb/s read speed and formatted for Xbox 360 use. A new USB flash drive is recommended to ensure optimum performance.

"For PlayStation®3, the game ships on one disc and will install content as soon as you insert the game. The install is roughly 8GB, and players will be able to play as soon as the install is complete."

So there you are. Lots of details on discs and installations and all that bother

Another great find man, I have absolutly no problem installing it lol. will probably install the second disk too if it won't bother the first install.

This is a good idea, it worked well with Halo 4. It does take up a chunk of memory though.

I was planning on installing it anyway so it doesn't bother me one bit lol

Yeah You will need to install both cd's but will only need one disc to play the game, so luckily no "Change the disc 2" moments Smile
