Just turned on the xbox and having to download new system update so done bit of searching and this is what the update is about for anyone interested:

System Software Changes/Other:

Purchases are now made with local currency, instead of Microsoft Points.
Increased Performance for Dashboard Interaction
Color Scheme change: Darker Greens and Greys similar to Xbox One Dashboard
Auto-Downloads option available to automatically download game and app updates

does that mean MPs are now redundant as i still have a fair amount on my account?

All your Microsoft points will be transformed in to real cash of the same value. So say you have 800 points that cost you £4.99 let's say then you will now have £4.99 there now.
