I'm hearing some SCARY things about GOW:J

We all know about the new control system. But there is more to worry about...

No Multiplayer Down But Not Out! (DBNO) - CONFIRMED

No Locust in versus just Red & Blue Cog - CONFIRMED

No executions (because of no DBNO) - CONFIRMED

No Horde or Beast - both yet to be confirmed

No single elimination gametypes (wingman/execution/warzone style) - CONFIRMED

Power bonus for perfect reload, is gone. - CONFIRMED

Don't mean to scare people but this doesn't sound good.

Ouch...not liking the sound of all that....

Ok here is a full list of what to expect...

Players

Ten players confirmed.
Character skins are not confirmed but multiple videos show Gears 3 characters and Judgment characters. Gears 3 characters are possibly placeholders.
No Locust in versus Multiplayer.



Grenades

Frag grenades now can stick opponents to "reward players who have good accuracy."
You spawn with a medium-damage Frag in FFA.
Grenade wall plants are disabled.
Tagging can still be done to players by holding LB and pressing B.
Grenades can be aimed by holding LB.
Ink grenade no longer stun.
Ink grenades have larger AoE (Area of Effect) and DPS (Damage/second). Can be used as deterrents for halls, weapon pickups, doorways. Cannot be rolled or run through without doing DBNO (Down But Not Out).
Grenade counter next to weapon ammo in your HUD.
Grenades glow to more accurately outline them
Frag grenade damage has been lowered.



Loadouts & Weapon Swaps

When spawning, you can choose between Lancer and Hammerburst for a primary, Snub for secondary.
In order to pick up a different secondary, you must switch to your Snub pistol and change out that weapon. Otherwise you will change out your Primary weapon.
Weapon pickups have a faster animation than previous Gears installments.



Breechshot

Power Weapon.
One shot headshot, but if you aim for the body, it takes 3 shots to kill.



Rifles

All rifles (Lancer, Hammerburst, Retro lancer) have the same damage settings as Gears 3.
Retro Lancer is confirmed to be returning. Retro Charge is confirmed to return. Retro is a pickup weapon in FFA.
Failed Retro charge appears to do less damage than Gears 3.



Shotguns

Sawed-off is confirmed to be returning. Damage setting is unknown. Pickup Weapon in FFA.
Gnasher is returning. Damage setting unknown. Pickup weapon in FFA.



Customization

Weapon skins are returning. Flaming Lancer, Immulsion Hammerburst spotted in PAX videos.
Decals & Skins not confined to weapons.



Weapon Control Changes

Tap "Y" to switch between primary/secondary weapons. Faster animation.
Hold "Y" to switch to pistol.
Tap "LB" to throw grenades. Overhand throw.
Hold "LB" to aim grenades. Underhand throw.
Hold "LB" and press "B" to tag grenades to players.
Tac-Com is now toggled through the D-Pad.
Press forward and "A" to mantle cover and also mantle kick.



Alternate Weapon Controls

"X" to run and dive.
"A" to take cover.
Hold "RB" to pickup weapons.
Tap "RB" to reload (takes priority over weapon pickup).
Down on D-Pad for Tac-Com.



Cross-hairs

Cross-hairs are permanent when hip firing or hard aiming.
Hip fire cross-hairs fade, but still turn red when on an enemy.
Hard aim cross-hairs turn to full brightness.



Height Drops

You can roll or run off high ledges, up to "Two Stories" according to developers.
Slight fall damage when taking this course of action.
You can chainsaw/shoot enemies while falling.



Chainsaw

Smoke is emitted when the chainsaw is revved.
Time between revving and being immune to stun has been increased from Gears 3 levels.



Health Regenerator

Pickup/Active effect.
Gives the player bursts of health to give a battle advantage.
Cannot survive one shot kills (Chainsaw, Retro charge, headshot, Gnasher gib, etc.)



Maps

Maps are designed for individual modes.
Gondola and Library are the two maps showcased.
Maps for FFA are more height based.



Spawns

Spawn time is reduced.
Spawn protection time is reduced.



Mechanics

Stopping power is removed.
Retro and DBS will be altered.
Mantle kick is under review for consistency.
No active reload bonus.

I hope I'm wrong but this game could be just another Cash Cow game and it could be that they should have left it at a trilogy like they originally planned too. As I say I hope i'm wrong.

Are they stupid? What the hell are they doing, it's bad enough that they've got rid of the DBNO and the executions. Plus why have they got rid of the reload????
Was really looking forward to judgement but it sounds like they've hacked apart a perfectly great game.
Ok so it's not confirmed about Horde or Beast but it's not looking good.

Oh dear - this is a grim read Publik.... Not excited about these changes at all - and no Horde? Seriously if that is true, my gaming time will be drastically reduced and a swift trade in could be looming too...

I will obviously give it a fair go - just not as looking forward to it as I was.

On the plus side I believe that there will be horde elements in the campaign. You will earn currency as you play and will be able to buy extra weapons and fortifications as you progress. Also there is a bigger incentive to replay campaign levels, as there is a new rating system which will grade your performance.

Again Horde has not been confirmed either way.

Been a while since I posted on here but having just read a few threads over at the Gears website I thought I'd pop in see what you guys were saying about the changes in gameplay.

Like many others I also have to say that I'm quite concerned with how things are shaping up. I'll be honest and say that I think they dropped the ball with the mp in Gears 3 after a promising start and they don't seem to be picking it back up with Judgement.

The campaign looks like it'll be the saving grace and I'm still pumped for that but I'm not convinced that the mp on offer will see me put in the hundreds of hours that I put into Gears 2 especially on Horde.

I really hope that they get away from the boosting aspect of the onyx medals as well. Horrible to see most of my friends boosting kills alone in private rather than actually playing the mp.

That boosting thing for the Onyx medals was ridiculous. I think you're right Vambo about the campaign being this new title's saving grace.... We could be pleasantly surprised though eh?

Aww man the SOS? This is a prequel it wasn't in Gears 1 or 2 lol

Some of the things make me say why fukin why but then some of the things sound interesting! Either way I won't be put of and I will have it on release day I think with these changes it will level the playing field and the veterans will have to adapt and the noobs will have a chance. Not to sure about pressing Y for a weapon change though that will take some getting use too!

agreed... too many things changed, why change a franchise that is the best seller?? Atleast Halo's take over was good, but this one, no locost, no horde mode, no beast mode, just COG... its a sad day, the Y weapon change is another key factor to get used too, i just cant understand COG vs COG tho...

I feel like they are just turning it into a CoD type game.... It's retarded, oh and the sawed off has TWO SHOTS now... Probably only going to pick this up when it hit the bargain bins and only for storyline at that.

What are your reasons for saying they are turning the game in to a cod type game?! I didn't realise gears now now a first person shooter, that is news to me! Also, sorry to double post, but I don't see your problem with a sawed off shotgun having two bullets, a shotgun hold TWO bullets.

i originally thought they were turning it into a CODish system. Y to swap weapons, quickfire frags etc. i hope theres a way to swap to the standard gears controls

Im not talking about the first person aspect, im talking about the controlls and how the weapons work anymore. Plus i have a problem with the sawed off having two bullets because its the same gun, how the hell did it change in a prequal? Makes no sense to me and now its a even noobier gun that im probably going to end up trying out eventually... But anyway, my point being its not the same game anymore, its become more like the usual shooters of today like CoD, and Battlefield... Just not in first person, but i think some CoD games let you play in 3rd even though its ugly.
